Platform
games typically feature characters who run a gauntlet of platforms and other
obstacles. In these games, players try to take out bad guys; jump over hazards;
avoid dangers; solve puzzles and search for power-ups that temporarily or
permanently increase their powers. These games feature bosses-ultra-powerful
bad guys that are hard to defeat.
A 2D platform game is two-dimensional-the characters simply run from one side
of the screen to the other-in a side-view. A 3D platform game is one that
features a character who runs into the screen-the action is viewed from behind.
The characters are free to run and jump in any direction and the game worlds
have depth. Popular platform games include: Rayman
and Donkey
Kong.
