Lobbing from the Dreamcast onto the Game Boy Advance, THQ's Virtua Tennis serves entertaining and surprisingly in-depth tennis action. Tennis fans, and even those who don't particularly enjoy tennis, will find this game fun to play.
Virtua Tennis comes with exhibition, tournament, and world circuit modes, and lets you develop and train characters. The game offers 16 players, both male and female, who have their own strengths and weaknesses, and it also features the formidable Williams sisters.
The game covers the tennis basics. It simulates play on grass, clay, and concrete; and adequately recreates the tennis basics: lobs, backhands, drop shots, serves, and more. The wealth of options keeps the games varied and interesting.
The most compelling mode is the world tour that lets you create and develop two tennis players and upgrade their skills by earning points. There are a host of creative and entertaining mini games. And with the GBA's link capability, you can play singles and doubles with up to four players.
The graphics are first rate and the virtua players move in smooth and fluid ways. You don't have to like tennis to enjoy Virtua Tennis. This title stands on its own as an exceptional one for Game Boy Advance.
