Standard side-scroller/fighter
Riding on the considerable coattails of the popular movie, Encore's Daredevil is a competent side-scrolling fight game. While the game doesn't stand apart from similar games, it loosely captures themes from the Daredevil movie and comic books.
In the game, Daredevil is out to stop New York's considerable crime gangs. As Daredevil, players run, jump, punch, kick, swing a baton, execute a few combos and perform acrobatic maneuvers, and battle such notables as Kingpin, Elektra, Bullseye, and the Sewer King, as well as assorted ninjas and thugs.
The title offers 23 levels that are set in sewers, on roofs, at docks, and more, and each level serves various power-ups and hidden items. The game also offers Daredevil's "radar sense" that lets him see invisible enemies and locate hidden items, which players can put to use at times. Players can also collect icons that unlock pictures from the movies, alternate costumes, and more.
The graphics are bright and evoke those of a comic book, and the game features a good audio track. The game is all about fighting, but there's no blood or gore.
In the end, Daredevil, the game, does little to differentiate itself from other side-scrollers on the market. It's a licensing coup that simply rides in the wake of the popular movie.
