For longtime gamers, it's much like a trip back in time. THQ's Phantasy Star Collection offers a fun compilation of the first three Phantasy Star role-play games (RPG) that date back to early Sega consoles. On the Game Boy Advance, the games offer huge environments and 3-D dungeons and are worthwhile endeavors that are still addicting to play. And those unfamiliar with the titles can find lots to like.

The collection offers the first three games in the Phantasy Star series, which are notable for innovating the roleplay genre on earlier consoles. In the original Phantasy Star, players become Alis Landale who has to defeat King Lassic. With a party of three, players travel to the Algo Solar System and battle Lassic's with weapons and magical spells.

In Phantasy Star II, the planet Mota once again faces danger. An unknown evil overtakes the planet affecting its climate, machinery, and nature. As Rolf, players have to unlock the mystery behind the dark force and restore peace.

In Phantasy Star III, the Dark Forces still remain and players have to conquer monstrous mutations using swords, knives, and bow, and their wits. The game features seven distant lands and four different endings. While number three is clearly not as good as the first two, it's still fun.

Each of the games offer hours and hours of entertainment. Since the games date back to early Sega consoles, the graphics are definitely dated. The titles feature lots of fighting, but the depictions are mild.

Amazingly, the Phantasy Star titles were great games in their day and remain fun titles to play today on a Game Boy Advance. Those who love role-play games may want to take a look.
