In an imaginative and whimsical way, Mario does pinball in Nintendo's entertaining Mario Pinball Land.
It seems that Bowser has kidnaped Peach and escaped to another dimension. As a result, a scientist transforms Mario into a ball and fires him after the fiend. This, in turn, begins a light-hearted and challenging pinball game that's set in the Mushroom Kingdom and features the usual cast of Nintendo characters, bad guys and bosses.
Players manipulate Mario in ball form to smack his enemies, collect items and propel through doors to proceed to new levels. Along the way, players get to collect star keys, defeat enemies, buy items, and rack up the points. Here, the game offers lots of varied bonuses and intriguing options.
The pinball action is compelling and the controls simple and easy to learn-just use those flippers. The game physics are fairly convincing, however, the action is all about Mario and his brand of pinball that doesn't necessarily resemble that of a real-life pinball machine. The graphics are colorful and well done.
Mario Pinball Land is an entertaining, relatively non-violent game that's set in the well known Mario world. The kids will have fun with this one.
