A game that can only happen on the DS, Kirby: Canvas Curse has players drawing on their DS touchscreens to help Kirby beat the bad guys. It's an innovative and entertaining game.
The game works entirely through the DS stylus and touchscreen. When Kirby is turned into a ball by an evil witch, players have to draw rainbow paths so Kirby can reach gates and locate power-ups, and these paths also protect him from falling icicles and other hazards.
Players can draw other objects. Loops make Kirby speed up, ramps cause him to jump and walls make him change directions and can also block laser beams and cannon blasts. Players can tap Kirby to make him dash into enemies and mimic their abilities, as well as use the stylus to stun enemies, destroy barriers and detonate bombs.
The game features seven levels that are each divided into three stages, with each stage holding three hidden medals. The worlds have their own creative themes and requisite bosses. Players search for medals, as well as earn them by completing tasks, which unlock special features.
There are time and other challenges, but unfortunately, the game lacks any multi-player features, which would have been fun. The graphics are colorful and attractive. In all, Kirby: Canvas Curse delivers classic Kirby elements, but makes use of the DS' strengths to create an entertaining game. It's good fun for all.
