While Sega's Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut is pretty much Sonic Adventure, a four-year-old Dreamcast game that was wildly popular in its day, this updated GameCube port is fun to play and offers a few enhancements.

It seems that Dr. Eggman is up to his old tricks again and trying to take over the world by stealing the seven Chaos Emeralds and raising the powerful Chaos monster to do his bidding. Entangled in this sinister plot, Sonic enlists the help of his friends: Amy, Tails, Knuckles and Big to foil the evil plan. The game features 30 fun and challenging arcade levels, and the characters each have their own storylines and gameplay styles.

This Director's Cut offers an all-new mission mode that serves 50 so so mini-missions. In these, players explore cities and temples and complete set missions. The game also features twelve hidden classic SEGA Game Gear titles. While fun to find, the games themselves are rather lackluster by today's standards. Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut also connects to Sonic Pinball Party, Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2 via the Nintendo GameCube-Game Boy Advance cable to offer additional activities.

The graphics are colorful and good. The camera, while generally competent, sometimes get caught behind objects so players can't adequately see the action. The game is a violent one with cute, compelling characters, but the fighting is bloodless.

For Sonic's GameCube debut, Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut offers an entertaining game that appeals to kids. This four-year-old game was great on the Dreamcast and it plays well on the GameCube. Those who have never discovered the joys of the hyper-hedgehog will find lots to discover. But those who have already played this game on the Dreamcast will find that it's much the same game.
