If you want to add some magic to your sim experience, Electronic Arts' new add-on, The Sims Makin' Magic, gives your sims magical powers. It's a fun, whimsical add-on that brings intriguing new life to the world of The Sims.

In this supernatural edition, Sims are given magical powers with abilities to cast spells. At home, players can use magic to hypnotize friends and enemies; turn pesky neighbors into frogs; and conjure garden gnomes into personal gardeners and lawn flamingos into entertaining hostesses. Mystical recipes may be unlocked one-by-one in the family spellbook, and players can mix ingredients to create new incantations.

Experienced players will welcome the many new spells that take the drudgery out of managing personal needs such as hunger and social interaction and keeping the house clean. On the downside, every spell has a backfire. Hair-raising consequences can include toad plagues, snakes, and lightning strikes.

The expansion comes with lots of new objects. Players can renovate their kitchens with an all-new Mediterranean set that features a new refrigerator, sink, stove, dishwasher, and tea set. Players can also enjoy baking breads, pies, and cakes in the new baker's over; growing vine plots and harvesting grapes and berries. Eccentric new characters include a snake charmer, gypsy, and a ghost.

When players are ready to venture out and improve their magic abilities, they can teleport to an all-new Magic Town location. Here, players can build carnivals with rides, a haunted house and more. And rewards may be earned by performing magic tricks at a side show or dueling in a magic arena. Here, Sims perform much as they did in the last add-on, SuperStar.

As an add-on, Makin' Magic brings fun new objects and scenarios, but makes no improvements to the game itself, which is showing its age. Many of the problems found in the original game, such as the clumsy camera, are still here.

The Sims Makin' Magic is a great add-on that brings much to the table. The magical theme is fun and whimsical, and fans of The Sims will want to get their hands on this one to begin conjuring. And remember, Electronic Arts has already stated that this is the last expansion for The Sims. That is, until an entire new version of the game comes to market some day.
