For those who have never tended to the affairs of tiny, virtual people, Electronic Arts' The Sims Double Deluxe is a bundle that features The Sims game, as well as The Sims Livin' Large and The Sims House Party expansion packs. Double Deluxe offers an excellent value to those who have never before played the Sims, but the release is quite similar to The Sims Deluxe Edition (click here to read the Daytrum review).

The Sims is the wildly popular game that lets players create a neighborhood of simulated people known as "Sims" and control their lives. The Sims Double Deluxe combines the full version of The Sims with the first two expansion packs in the series, The Sims Livin' Large and The Sims House Party.

The Sims Livin' Large expansion pack lets players put their Sim families into zany situations and settings. Its content adds dozens of items to the game including a home chemistry lab, heart shaped bed, and crystal ball, as well as a cast of wild characters such as the Grim Reaper, Genie, and Tragic Clown.

The Sims House Party add-on opens the door for players to throw parties, whether their Sims hoedown at a country barn dance, chow down at a tropical luau, or go underground at a rave. Additionally, there are numerous items such as a dance cage and mechanical bull, as well as characters such as a cake dancer and personal caterer.

The Sims Double Deluxe also comes with a customization tool for creating Sim characters. Players can select new clothes, design original attire, add logos to their clothing, and accessorize their Sims with belts, ties, and jewelry. Players can also import their face into the program and put it directly on a Sim character. Rounding off this collection, players can furnish their homes with all-new bonus content including dozens of new walls, floors, and objects in African and Asian design themes.

In a sense, The Sims Double Deluxe is a last hurrah for this version of The Sims. The next version is scheduled to release early next year. Despite the fact that the original The Sims will soon be obsolete, it's still a great game.
