Walt Disney's Jungle Book is back in a big way. The recently released Jungle Book 2 animated movie has just made its way through theaters (pretty decent, but mostly a rerun of the popular thirty-year-old original). And on the PS2, Ubi Soft's Walt Disney's The Jungle Book: Rhythm n' Groove updates the PlayStation version of the game with new 3D graphics. It's much the same game, but it looks better.
Rhythm n' Groove is basically Dance Dance Revolution with a Jungle Book theme. Arrows fall on the screen and players try to hit the appropriate buttons on their PS2 controllers, or, with a dance pad, step on the correct pad. Players get to dance through tunes from the movie that include "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wanna Be Like You" to try and bring Mowgli safely to the man village.
Players can dance solo or with a friend in cooperative and competitive games, and prance about as Mowgli or one of ten characters from the film. Family members can enjoy dancing together, and with a dance pad, the game offers exercise possibilities for couch-bound video game players. The game offers various levels to challenge players-although it skews towards easy.
Graphics are good and fun to watch, and the game features well-rendered Jungle Book characters. In a batant self and cross-promotion, the game features the theatrical trailer for The Jungle Book 2 movie.
While Walt Disney's The Jungle Book: Rhythm n' Groove is much like the original PlayStation game, it's entertaining, particularly for youngsters. It's also available for a reasonable $19.99, which makes it a solid deal.
