Edgy songs
Video games generally encourage kids to be couch potatoes. And a title that gets kids to stand up and do something physical is truly a revolution. For this, Konami's DDRMAX2 Dance Dance Revolution is the finest dance game yet that features popular songs and new game modes. If your family hasn't yet discovered the joys of dancing in a video game, DDRMAX2 is the way to go.
DDRMAX2 is an interactive rhythm video game that's played with a dance pad-a mat that connects to the PlayStation 2 and replaces the handheld controller, and lets players step on giant buttons. As directional arrows fall on the screen, players try to step on the correct button in the right sequence and at the right time. The challenging and entertaining game scores players on how many correct steps they make.
To start, the game features everything that was great in prior versions and offers new modes. A beginner mode helps novices learn the game, while a nonstop mode offers consecutive songs with few breaks, and an endless mode lets players dance to all of the game's songs in one continuous mix. A workout mode lets players track the calories that they burn while dancing and an edit mode lets players create their own dance moves.
DDRMAX2 features some 65 songs and 100-plus minutes of dance music. While the game still emphasizes European and Japanese music, there are popular songs by acts such as Kylie Minogue, The Crystal Method, K.C. & The Sunshine Band, Dirty Vegas and more.
The graphics are first rate and serve well done dancers. At times, the game plays music videos in the background. However, these are hardly noticed by players who are intent on stepping on the correct buttons.
DDRMAX2 Dance Dance Revolution is truly the latest and greatest dance game that can coax kids off of the couch. And it's a great party game that families can play together. If you don't already own a dance mat, Konami is selling a bundle that includes the mat with the game.
