Brutal and graphic violence

Violence Rating:

It's a brutal, bloody business. And Sierra's SWAT: Global Strike Team provides an exciting, action-packed tactical shooter with a fun co-op mode.

SWAT: Global Strike Team (GTS) is a first-person, single-player, tactical shooter. While the game rewards players for not killing, the game is filled with graphic and bloody action. As the leader of a SWAT team, players command their computer-controlled teammates, a sniper and a technical specialist, through some 20 missions. Throughout, players get to use the latest gear and weaponry and use the environment to their advantage.

The missions are varied and occur in locales throughout the world. Players will have to rescue hostages, track down suspects, disarm bombs and more in locations that include Los Angeles and the former Soviet Union.

Weapons include submachine guns, shotguns, tranquilizer guns, sniper rifles, and more. Technology includes night vision imaging systems, gas masks, fiber optic cameras and satellite reconnaissance. Players may also use handheld deployables include CS gas grenades, concussion grenades and flash bangs. A fun twist popularized in the game Socom, players may optionally order their teammates by issuing voice commands through a headset.

What makes the game stand out is its first rate split-screen co-op play that lets players accomplish missions together as a team. The game looks great and offers lots of entertainment. But the killing is graphic and brutal, and, as a result, the game is not appropriate for the kids.

Gamers who enjoy tactical shooters such as Rainbow Six, and those who enjoy the cooperative modes in titles such as Timesplitters 2 should have a blast with SWAT: Global Strike Team. It's a worthy game.
