Based on television's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, VU Interactive's Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds offers a compelling third-person fighting adventure game that evokes the characters, action and humor of the popular TV show. Fans of the show won't want to miss this one.
The game calls itself a lost episode of the show. It seems that Buffy and her friends discover that a dreaded enemy from the past is at the center of a climactic struggle with The First- the ultimate incarnation of evil. Together, they must face undead armies of vampires, zombies and demons to keep the hellions from casting the world into permanent darkness. The show's creators were involved with the development of the game and some cast members provided voiceovers.
The game serves lots of action in an authentic Buffy world with six playable characters that include Xander, Willow, Spike, Faith, and Sid the Dummy. Each character fights differently and the game designates the character that players fight as in each section. The fighting engine allows some 100 moves and combinations. The game also serves lots of puzzles that ask players to search for items and use them.
The multi-player action supports up to four people and includes Survival, Bunny Catcher, Slayer Challenge, and Domination. Survival is a last player standing game, while Bunny Catcher asks players to capture bunnies for points. Slayer Challenge has one person trying to kill the other players, while domination has players trying to gain control of a series of pentagrams.
The graphics are good. As you would expect in a game based on the Buffy television show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds is a violent title with themes that can disturb youngsters. Fans of the television show will enjoy the many DVD-style extras that come with the game.
Even if the show itself is now over and in syndication, Buffy lives on in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds. Fans of the show and even those who are not too familiar with the characters will have a blast taking on the underworld.
