Those who have been into video gaming for some time will recall the amazing Prince of Persia arcade game. More than a decade ago, the game was fresh and innovative for its time, and now, the prince returns in a superb action title. With its fluid animations, fantastic graphics, challenging levels and inimitable hero that manipulates time, Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one of the best games of the year.
Amidst the scorched sands of medieval Persia, a young prince discovers a magic dagger that unleashes a deadly evil upon his kingdom. Aided by a seductive princess and the Sands of Time, it's up to the Prince to reclaim the palace's cursed chambers and restore peace to the fabric of time.
To accomplish this, the prince performs gravity-defying acrobatics that have him hopping between pillars, running across anything horizontal, swinging from ropes and more. He also gets to execute furious fighting combos and bend time when he needs to. Gameplay involves avoiding obstacles, fighting enemies and solving puzzles. And when the character dies, players may use the magic dagger to effectively go back in time and try again.
Despite the amazing acrobatics that the lead character performs, they're not difficult to execute. The prince catches himself on ledges so players don't have to die a thousands of deaths by falling. And the game is designed so players won't often get lost and provides hints so it doesn't become frustrating to play. This game is challenging, but approachable, even for novice players.
The graphics and animation are phenomenal and the title does a great job of serving vast, exotic landscapes and locales. As you would expect, the game is full of graphic violence and dangerous situations.
Bigger, better and badder, Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time is one of the finest action games that we have played to date. In every respect, it delivers an involving and entertaining experience.
