Wartime violence
Effectively extending the entertaining "Ghost" experience, Ubisoft's Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strikes offers a new mission and snow environments. Fans of the Ghost series will find lots to like.
As in past versions, Ghost Recon remains a first rate third-person action shooter that places players in the role of soldiers who are leading a four-man team. The game's artificial intelligence is excellent and the virtual team members react logically and quickly.
In the year 2012, the country of Kazakhstan has fallen into chaos. The Kazakh president and Security Council are assassinated in an explosion that's been set by a notorious warlord and arms dealer. With the leader rubbed out, the Kazakh military has broken into factions that are vying for control of the country.
Of course, when trouble strikes, the elite Ghost team gets called in. To succeed, the Ghosts and their guide have to track the warlord across mountain ranges and arid badlands. And throughout, players get to use various weapons and accomplish lots of objectives in huge areas.
The expansion offers a new set of maps, weapons and vehicles that serve a new game experience. There are also intriguing new snow environments to deal with. Good multi-user support offers lots of options for head-to-head play across the usual Xbox options, and there's also fun cooperative play.
The graphics are excellent. As you would expect for a war-themed title, the game depicts lots of graphic violence. Ghost Recon remains a standout series and Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strikes effectively extends the experience.
