Anchored
by solid and fun performances by
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan who
"switch" bodies so Mom becomes daughter
and daughter becomes Mom, Freaky Friday is
an entertaining family movie. The script,
direction and performances come together to
make the body-swapping gimmick work, and it even manages to be a bit touching.
In this remake of the 70's film, Dr. Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her fifteen-year-old daughter, Anna (Lindsay Lohan), are not getting along. Like typical parents and siblings, they can't agree on school, clothes, hair, music and more. Anna is upset that her Mom doesn't support her musical aspirations and Tess, a widow about to remarry, can't see why Anna won't give her fiance (Mark Harmon) a chance.
Everything changes when two fortune cookies cause Tess and Anna to be placed inside the other's body. Mom and daughter literally walk a mile in each other's shoes and gain newfound respect for the other's situation and viewpoint. The plot offers lots of humorous situations where the characters have to act as each other.
DVD extras are slim with some deleted scenes and alternate endings, bloopers, two music videos and a segment called "Backstage Pass with Lindsay Lohan," which shows the actress working behind the scenes. The star of this DVD is the entertaining film that may be enjoyed by everyone in the family. It's definitely worth a look.
