While the titles in Disney's "Walt Disney Treasure" series offer thorough collections of Disney animated shorts sorted by character and theme, the new, lower-priced "Starring" titles, which include: Classic Cartoon Favorites - Starring Mickey, Classic Cartoon Favorites - Starring Donald Duck, Classic Cartoon Favorites - Starring Goofy and Classic Cartoon Favorites - Starring Chip ‘n Dale, offer relatively brief compilations. While the "Walt Disney Treasure" titles are for serious animation fans, the "Starring" titles will appeal to those who simply want to sit back and enjoy classic Disney animated shorts.
Any collection of Disney classics begins with Mickey Mouse. Two entertaining shorts in Classic Cartoon Favorites - Starring Mickey are "Hawaiian Holiday," where a troublesome starfish turns Mickey and Pluto's vacation into a disaster, and "Moving Day," where Mickey has to once again match wits with longtime nemesis, Peg-Leg Pete.
The hilarious and irresistible Donald Duck is at his best in Classic Cartoon Favorites - Starring Donald Duck. In "Chef Donald," the irritable duck accidentally mixes rubber cement in with his waffle batter to create a sticky situation, and "Don Donald," while not necessarily Donald's best film, is most notable for introducing Daisy Duck.
In Classic Cartoon Favorites - Starring Goofy, Goofy is in typically, wacky form. In "The Big Wash," Goofy visits the circus and matches wits with Delores, an elephant (guess who wins?). And in "Father's Day Off," the loveable loser helps out with household chores and leaves his home in shambles.
With nine classic cartoons, Classic Cartoon Favorites - Starring Chip ‘n Dale showcases the hilarious chipmunks. Most fun are "Dragon Around," where the two fairy tale-loving chipmunks mistake Donald's steam shovel for a dragon, and "Chicken In The Rough," which depicts Chip 'n Dale's hilarious mishaps on a farm.
If you're a serious Disney animation fan, go with the more thorough "Walt Disney Treasure" titles. But if you simply want to enjoy Disney animation with the kids, the titles in the "Starring" series are loads of fun.
