During World War II, the Disney Studio
was taken over by the military as part of the
war effort. Making the most of the talent that
hadn't yet joined the military and shipped out,
Disney created and produced training,
propaganda, and educational films for the
Armed Forces. The results of this effort are presented in Disney's Walt Disney on the Front Lines, a two-disc DVD set.

The DVD set includes such notables as "Victory Through Air Power," "Chicken Little" and Donald Duck's notable "Der Fuehrer's Face," as well as various Donald, Pluto and other shorts and propaganda and educational films. Kids will enjoy the various Donald and other shorts, but many of the films and segments will mainly be of interest to Disney collectors and history buffs.

Some such as "Education for Death, Reason and Emotion" are downright disturbing and as you would expect, many feature gross racial stereotypes and caricatures from the period. Extras include interviews with Disney Legends Joe Grant, John Hench, and Roy Disney.

More for collectors and mature Disney fans, Walt Disney on the Front Lines offers a fascinating look at the WWII era.
