Disney digs into its vaults once again to remake and update a classic. This time, it's the Love Bug movies. The film even features Lindsay Lohan, who has starred in many of the Disney remakes such as Freaky Friday and The Parent Trap. As such, Herbie: Fully Reloaded offers a fun race car romp that is suitable for the family, but skewed towards the kids.
As in the original Love Bug movies, the film stars Herbie, a fun-loving, free-wheeling '63 VW Beetle that has a mind of his own. Though a third-generation member of a NASCAR racing family, Maggie Peyton (Lohan) has been discouraged from following her racing dreams by her overprotective father (Michael Keaton). But after discovering the irresistible Herbie in a junkyard, they form a team that rewrites the racing record books. As you would expect, old "Number 53" returns with some new tricks under his hood.
There are a few DVD extras that include a mini-documentary on the stunts, bloopers, audio commentary and the requisite music video, once again, starring Lohan. The film offers adequate family entertainment, but the comedy appeals more to the kids. As such, the DVD is not a must own, but more of a candidate for rental.
