With stunning
animation and fun characters,
Dreamworks' Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
delivers an uproarious adventure. The film may
have floundered at this past summer's box office,
but it's a fantastic family film that's now available on DVD.
The film comes with major star power with the voices of Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michelle Pfeiffer and Joseph Fiennes. But the stars deliver compelling performances that build fun, involving characters. Most impressive is the animation that serves the wistful Eris; the water-like sirens; complicated, action-packed fight sequences; convincing water and ship effects and incredible sea monsters. The violence in the film is bloodless-even when the characters go at each other with swords.
DVD extras are modest. Most impressive is the "Cyclops Island" animated short that lets viewers choose characters to follow different paths through the story. The "Making of Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" offers some fun, behind-the-scenes looks at aspects of the film. In addition to commentary, the disc comes with some 15 games and activities, printable mazes and masks and more.
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas clearly deserved more respect than it received in theaters. It's an entertaining film and at least worth a rental for a family evening.
