For those who are tired of printing expensive labels for their CD and DVD discs or looking at libraries of ugly, scribbled-on discs, HP announced the availability of LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology in select configure-to-order (CTO) HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario notebook PCs.

According to the company, LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling is a new technology, invented by HP, which enables customers to burn silkscreen-quality labels on their CDs and DVDs. Using the same laser that burns data in their disc drives, customers can burn their data as always, flip the disc over, reinsert it into the drive and burn a precise and permanent iridescent label.

HP also announced two new notebook PCs. The HP Pavilion dv4000 Series Entertainment Notebook PC with HP QuickPlay and the Compaq Presario V4000 Notebook PC that comes equipped with a 15.4-inch widescreen display.

Estimated U.S. prices of both the HP Pavilion dv4000 and Compaq Presario V4000 will start at $1099 after rebate and will vary based on the configuration ordered. HP's offering of CTO notebooks will begin offering the choice of Intel Pentium M or Celeron M processors.
