HP announced its Media Center PC m200 series, which is designed to provide digital entertainment enthusiasts an even better value than previous models with enhanced features and reduced prices - including the ability to configure a custom HP Media Center starting as low as an estimated $999. Available off the retail shelf and now customizable from HP, the HP Media Center PC m200 series features faster processors, larger hard drives, advanced graphics options as well as a wireless HP Media Center Premium keyboard and mouse on select models for additional user flexibility and fewer cables.

Beginning July 9, HP Media Center PC customers can personalize their digital media PC with a variety of choices. Customizable versions may be ideal for PC owners who have already invested in peripherals, such as surround sound speakers and external DVD+RW drives for their existing systems, and who would like to enjoy a range of entertainment features offered by Media Center PCs.

The ability to customize the HP Media Center PC may allow customers more flexibility to mix and match the options that will best support their individual interests and budget. While some customers may prefer a large hard drive for storing full seasons of their favorite TV show and only a recordable CD drive for making music CDs, others may have a set-top DVD player and instead choose a recordable DVD writer so they can make DVDs of recorded TV and the home movies they like to edit, but not need as much internal storage.

The HP Media Center PC can be configured for as low $999 with a 2.4-gigahertz Pentium 4 processor; 512-megabytes DDR memory; an 80-gigabyte hard drive; and an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 AGP 8x graphics card.

Additional configurable options include the new wireless HP Media Center Premium keyboard and mouse; Intel Pentium 4 processors up to 3.2 gigahertz; up to 1.5-gigabytes DDR memory; hard drives as large as 250 gigabytes; as well as a variety of optical drive combinations, speakers, and graphics and sound card options.

All HP Media Center PCs also include a Media Center remote control and keyboard with entertainment controls, six-in-one media card reader, TV tuner card and free digital program guide; TV-out ports; six channel audio; six USB ports; two or more IEEE FireWire ports; 10/100BT Ethernet port; and v.90 modem.

In addition to the configurable Media Centers available direct from HP and on select retailer kiosks, the company also plans to release three new pre-configured m200n series models in July.

The HP Media Center PC m260n is expected to be available July 13 for an estimated U.S. street price of $1,299.
