Almost like going back in time, Verbatim's new Digital Vinyl CD-R discs look like 45-rpm records of old. While the discs are pricey, they present a fun way to archive music and data.

Reminiscent of the 45 rpm records of the '50s, '60s and '70s; the Digital Vinyl CD-R discs promise solid performance, compatibility and durability. To start, the discs make use of Verbatim's dark blue azo dye technology that is designed to offer first rate read/write performance and data fidelity.

The disc's reflective layer is protected with a dual-protective layer. The layer is designed to provide longer archival life and protection from scratches, as well as sunlight, high temperatures, humidity and handling. The Digital Vinyl CD-R discs were tested and certified by leading drive manufacturers and aim to deliver an estimated archival life of more than 100 years.

According to the company, the retro-looking discs are an excellent way for people to copy their old, delicate LP records onto a premium-quality digital media that will keep the look and feel of LPs. The company also says that the discs will also be excellent for businesses to use for mixed media presentations and sales videos.

We definitely like the look of the discs, but find them expensive-some four-times the cost of conventional CD-Rs purchased in bulk. It's up to you whether you want to pay for the fun of storing data and music onto these visually compelling discs.

Availability and Pricing
The 700MB, 80-minute Digital Vinyl CD-R media are available at a street price of $1.49 for a single disc and $12.99 for a 10-pack.
