If you collect MP3 music files, MAGIX's MAGIX MP3 Maker Diamond 2004 offers a virtual Swiss-Army software knife for working with music. The program's competent tools let you rip, convert and organize music files, and its powerful editing tools offer amazing capabilities to clean-up, modify and mix MP3 and Wave-based music. The software sounds great on paper and it lives up its premise and promise.
MAGIX MP3 Maker Diamond 2004 easily rips songs from audio CDs and converts them into MP3 files that may be stored on a PC or played on portable MP3 players. And vice versa, the software converts MP3s so they may be burned onto audio CDs and played on any CD-player. The software supports MP3 and WAV formats, as well as WMA, and OGG.

review - Magix MP3 Maker Diamond 2004

The program's editing features are most impressive. In addition to splicing songs and copying and pasting sections into others, the software offers controls to modify three-dimensional sound; adjust the sound with a 10-band equalizer and control volume. Audio effects that come with the program include reverb, delay, stereo enhancer and more. You can also add song or track fades, apply special audio effects, filter out noise, create tracks and enhance overall sound.
If you own a prior version of the program, new features include: 1) automatic volume adjustment that compensates for differences in volume between songs; 2) new effects that include maximizer, 3D audio and scratching; 3) the ability to burn CD text background information; and 4) a programmable timer that lets you program radio recording times. Depending on your needs, the upgrade may or may not be worth it.
Secondary features include abilities to convert multimedia playlists into slideshows and access FTP menus to perform internet downloads, and e-mail support lets you forward songs to others from within the program. You can also use the program to design custom CD covers and labels and print them, and burn CDs.
In all, MAGIX MP3 Maker Diamond 2004 offers powerful tools and does just about everything a consumer would want to do with an MP3 file. All this, and it's available for under $30.
